New for 2011

In May 2011 I am doing something different with Morag Walks. We will be staying at Walshaw Lodge. It is on the hills above Hebden Bridge, 2 miles beyond Gibson Mill which is in Hardcastle Crags. Do visit the web site it is breathtaking www.walshawlodge.com.  Morag Walks has hired the entire lodge for the week of May 6-13, 2011.
Walshaw Lodge is a magical place in a timeless setting.  It is nestled in beautiful country side and from it we will be walking to Wuthering Heights and down into Hardcastle Crags. The accommodations are stunning. Inside is as beautiful as outside. My only concern is that Walshaw Lodge is so beautiful that people will not want to leave it to go on any of the planned events!
How lucky are we that Jennifer Pazienza and Gerry Clarke, two good friends of mine from Fredericton, have agreed to cater this very special week.  The food and their company will be outstanding.  There will also be some meals eaten in other places, for example those who have already tasted lamb shank at the Packhorse Inn know it is worth doing again!
I will be hiring a mini bus that my Uncle John Broadbent will drive, so there will be various options built in for those who do not want to walk on a particular day.  Yvonne Broadbent will also accompany us for the week. Those of you who have met John and Yvonne already know of their generous companionship.
I have hired Juliet Barker to join us for dinner one evening and to talk to us about the Brontes; Juliet is a renowned historian and has written extensively on this topic. She happens to live close by!  Her web site is

We will walk in Crimsworth Dean with Donald Crossley.  Donald was a childhood friend of Ted Hughes who was born in the area, and was Poet Laureate until his death is 1998.  The day with Donald is very memorable; see

We will also walk to Wuthering Heights.  And don't let’s forget the day in York, the Minster and tea at Betty's, we will travel there by train.
